Anna Komorowska




Born 24 September  1946 in Białogrady, north-east Poland
Mother of Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
Daughter of count Leon Michael Komorowski (1907-1992) and countess Sophia Sapieha-Kodeńska (1919-1997).
She has four sisters and one brother. In 1957 she left Poland with her parents and settled in Kivu, Belgian Congo.  Later on she worked as a nurse in Brussels.
In 1971 she married the Belgian count Patrick d'Udekem d'Acoz. The couple settled on a castle near Bastogne. They got five children: Mathilde (1973), Marie-Alix (1974), Elisabeth (1977), Hélène (1979) and Charles-Henri (1985). Marie-Alix died in 1997 together with her grandmother in a car accident.
On 4 December 1999 Mathilde married crown-prince Philippe from Belgium. Count Patrick d'Udekem d'Acoz died in 2008.
On July 21, 2013 Philippe became King and Mathilde Queen of Belgium.
